RBS DESIGN GROUP ARCHITECTURE FEATURED IN ARCHITECTURAL PORTFOLIO HONORING EDUCATION DESIGN EXCELLENCE

Owensboro, KY January 21, 2010 – RBS Design Group Architecture announces that Russell County Schools, Auditorium/Natatorium, in Russell Springs, KY has been selected for publication in Penton Media’s American School & University® 2009 Architectural Portfolio. The project was featured in the November 2009 edition of the magazine and also on the Web at www.SchoolDesigns.com. This is an annual competition honoring education design excellence. The Architectural Portfolio spotlights projects representing some of the most effective learning environments in America.

RBS Design Group Architecture designed a 50,462 square feet multi-use educational / community facility that includes;
1) 9 classrooms;
2) 1 multi-purpose room;
3) 750 seat auditorium; and
4) natatorium and fitness center.

The Russell County Schools will use this facility for performing arts, regional swimming and diving meets, and as a community fitness/ event center.

A jury of American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on Architecture for Education members and education administrators evaluated submissions from architectural firms, schools and universities across the country. One hundred seventy-eight projects were chosen for publication in AS&U, a monthly educational facilities, purchasing and business administration magazine reaching 70,000 facility planners, school and university administrators and architects with this issue. This is the 27th year the competition has been held.

The jury considered the following specific criteria to make its selections: designs should meet stated goals; designs should enhance learning by inspiring creativity, fostering and promoting collaboration, and integrating curriculum; designs should be functional, considering flexibility, community use, security, community, technology, social spaces and outdoor connectivity; and designs should are sustainable.

This marks the eleventh award received from American School and University Magazine by RBS Design Group Architecture since 2003. RBS Design Group Architecture is a locally owned and operated architectural firm since opening in 1978.
