People in Muhlenberg County will soon have a new place to buy fresh food from local farmers.

Muhlenberg County officials recently found out that the area had been awarded a $125,000 grant from the Kentucky Farmers Market Grant Program. With a donation from the Felix Martin Foundation and funds matched by the county, officials will soon break ground on a new $300,000 farmers market pavilion.

“Now most of them are just parking in parking lots, bringing tents, and selling out of the back of their pick up truck. Now they’ll have a central location where people won’t be guessing what day is it and where are they. I think it will boost their sales, just be an attraction people will be drawn too,” says Rick Newman, Muhlenberg County Judge Executive.

Located off the 189 Bypass in Powderly, the new pavilion will have an underground area for bee-keepers to make fresh honey.

Construction on the project is set to begin in the spring and be finished in mid-2014.
